Tasting notes

The 2018 Pichon Baron reveals lovely aromas of raspberries, blueberry coulis, crème de cassis, and incense, as well as notes of lilac, truffles, undergrowth, garrigue, and wild sage. Full-bodied, voluptuous, and utterly seductive, the palate reveals layer upon layer of flavors of wild black fruit jams, framed by wonderfully ripe, velvety tannins and beautiful freshness. The finish is very long and fragrant.

Heritage in the vineyard

Domaine

The origins of the estate date back to the late 17th century, in 1689, Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan, a prominent wine merchant and steward of the prestigious Latour and Margaux estates, purchased vineyards adjacent to the Latour estate, establishing what became known as the Enclos Rauzan. Château Pichon Baron was originally part of this larger estate, owned by Pierre de Rauzan, which also included Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. In 1850, the estate was split into the two Pichon estates we know today. In 1987, the French insurance company AXA acquired Château Pichon Baron. The estate is currently managed by Christian Seely.
