Tasting notes

A vintage that was marked by warm temperatures and drought, with an early bud burst, high sugar and low berry weight. A nose that layers charcoal, cigar, tobacco leaf with flint as well as a hint of salinity. On the palate, black cherries with chalk, layered and enjoyable.

Soil composition: Deep gravel from the Quaternary period of a clay subsoil.

Fermentation container: Hand-picked
Maceration technique: Vatting time 15 to 25 days.
Aging: Oak Barrels
70% in new barrels, 30% in 1 hear old barrels for 15 months.

Heritage in the vineyard

Domaine

Founded in the 17th century, the estate was eventually divided in two, Baron Raoul Pichon de Longueville’s portion became the Pichon Baron estate whereas the other portion become Pichon Comtesse, belonging to his three sisters. The estate buildings were added in 1851, inspired by Renaissance architecture with two emblematic stately turrets. Ranked deuxième cru classé in the 1855 classification. The estate was managed by the Bouteiller family before being purchased by AXA Millésimes in 1987.
