Tasting notes

An exceptional vintage, with very little rain causing a high water deficit. A very dense color with layered elements of black fruits, spices, and cocoa. On the palate, giving structure and elegance, with elements of liquorice and tobacco.

Vineyard

Vineyard size: 95 hectares
Soil composition: Mixed gravel with a sandy-clay subsoil.

Winemaking

Fermentation container: Hand-picked plot by plot before sorting, clusters are sorted, then de-stemmed and finally optical sorting before vatting.
Maceration technique: Stainless steel vats with temperature control – vatting time 20-25 days.
Aging: Oak barrels
18 months in 60% new oak barrels.

Heritage in the vineyard

Domaine

Founded in 1815 by Etienne Théodore Dumoulin, the Château was later classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 classification. In 1896, the Charmolüe family made significant investments. In 2006, the estate was purchased by Martin and Olivier Bouygues.

Under the ownership of Martin and Olivier Bouygues, the estate has been modernized, with new cellars as well as beginning to implement sustainable and organic farming practices.
