Tasting notes

An early budburst after a mild winter, followed by an Indian summer in September and October. A vintage that has a fruity intensity of black cherries, blackberries that are intertwined with fine cedar notes. Delicate and supply with a finish that is signed Cabernet Sauvignon, harmonious and elegant.

Vineyard

Vineyard size: 118 hectares
Soil composition: Gunzian gravel with a subsoil of sandy-clay.

Winemaking

Fermentation container: Hand-picked and transported to the cellars in crates. Selection by hand then optical.
Maceration technique: Stainless steel vats with moderate pumping-over, occasional rack and return or punching down if necessary – Vatting time 15 to 22 days.
Aging: Oak Barrels
21 months with 60% new oak barrels.

Heritage in the vineyard

Domaine

Originally known as « La Grange » in the 13th century and later purchased in 1790 by Jean-Valère Cabarrus. The estate was classified 3ème Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. After being purchased in 1983 by Suntory, a Japanese beverage company, which marked the beginning of significant improvements for the estate.

Environmental practices

In 1995, Château Lagrange collaborated with INRA (National Institute of Agronomical Research) to further research against grape worm. Along these lines the property was certified with an environmental Management System in 2017. Farming 10 hectares using biodynamic principles and 20 hectares using organic principles. Adding solar panels to the cellars to improve the energy balance. Mindful of nature and respectful with production methods.
