Tasting notes

A very beautiful wine, with a very slight fruitiness. Leather and wax on the nose, followed by hints of red fruit. Very solid structure, with firm, compact tannins.

Soil composition: Calcareous, sandy and gravel-based soils.

Winemaking

Fermentation container: Wooden vats
Maceration technique: Vatting time 15-20 days with temperature control.

Heritage in the vineyard

Domaine

Dating to the 13th century, but gaining notoriety during the 17th century thanks to the De Ségur family. Starting during the 18th century, the Marquis Nicolas Alexandre de Ségur focused on consolidating early successes and improving winemaking techniques. Earning the château the title of « the King’s wine » before being classified first growth in 1855. In 1868, the estate was acquired by Baron James de Rothschild.
