Tasting notes

A year that had winter and spring rain followed by a dry and hot season that lasted through late September, benefitting the ripening process. Intense color with floral, blackcurrant and boysenberry aromatic profile that comes through clearly. Polished tannins with good intensity.

Vineyard size: 53 hectares
Soil composition: Hillsides with gravel with a deep layer of clay.

Fermentation container: Hand-picked with careful sorting.
Maceration technique: Stainless steel tanks with temperature control.

Heritage in the vineyard

Domaine

A history dating back to the 12th century, with the Essenault family owning it from 1575, from whom the name is derived. Already having made a name for the Château as it was reported to have been served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine to Henry Plantagenet in 1152. The Cruse family, took over ownership in 1945 joined in 2012 by Françoise and Jacky Lorenzetti.

Environmental practices

Taking great care to follow each plot individually to produce the best fruit possible. Regulation of production, careful tilling of the soil, de-suckering the vines as well as green harvest to ensure a perfect grape concentration and a healthy environment for the vines.
