Tasting notes

Beautiful aromatic radiance. The palate takes shape, very round at first, then showing its ripe tannins, complete structure and very fruity finish.

Vineyard

Vineyard size: 112 hectares
Soil composition: Calcareous, sandy and gravel-based soils.

Winemaking

Fermentation container: Oak, cement and stainless steel vats.
Maceration technique: Light pumping over to delicately extract tannins and colors, vatting time: 20 days.
Aging: Transferred to French barrels made by the « Tonnellerie des Domaines », a cooperage in Pauillac.
100% old barrels used the year before for the « grand wine ». Aged for an average of 16 months.

Heritage in the vineyard

Domaine

Dating to the 13th century, but gaining notoriety during the 17th century thanks to the De Ségur family. Starting during the 18th century, the Marquis Nicolas Alexandre de Ségur focused on consolidating early successes and improving winemaking techniques. Earning the château the title of « the King’s wine » before being classified first growth in 1855. In 1868, the estate was acquired by Baron James de Rothschild.
