Tasting notes

The palate is very intense and disarmingly youthful, almost ferrous on entry with layers of ripe black fruit that build to an earthy finish. There’s a fine delineation, an underlying minerality that will surface with time.

Vineyard size: 45 hectares
Soil composition: A layer of thick quaternary gravel, with a predominantly clay sub-soil

Winemaking

Fermentation container: Tronconical stainless-stell tanks with temperature control
Maceration technique: Maceration for 20 days. Pumping over twice a day. Fermentation at 26°C. Malolactic fermentation
Aging: Oak Barrels
20 months, 100% new barrels. Fining with egg white.

Heritage in the vineyard

Domaine

Named in part after the small boats called « calones » that once navigated the Garonne River, the estate rose to prominence in the 18th century under the Marquis de Ségur, who bestowed part of his name upon this iconic estate. Now owned by the Suravenir Insurance Group, the estate is managed by Laurent Dufau.

Environmental practices

A commitment to sustainably run viticulture with cover crops in the vineyard pathways and parcels that are left to lie fallow to further instill biodiversity. Consciously aware of their impact of the environment, the estate has been certified classified high environmental value (HVE level 3) as of 2017. Implementing environmental dimensions into its economic strategy.
