HISTORY

First established in 1365, then purchased by Scottish navigator and wine merchant, George Smith, who would re-name the Château after himself. Elevated to Grand Cru Exceptionnel status in 1842. In 1990, the estate was purchased by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, they have elevated Smith Haut-Lafitte to among the leading great growth of Bordeaux.

On the nose, we find black fruits, wild blackberry, blackcurrant, as well as notes of spice, pepper, licorice and flint. On the palate, the attack is straightforward and very long, with greedy roundness and delicate tannins. An explosion of flavors for this expressive cuvée: cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry, as well as licorice, cinnamon and gunflint.

Very aromatic nose. Rather fresh and crisp. Aromas of roses. Silky tannins combine with freshness, hints of mint and liquorice. This is a precise wine, more serious and refined. On the palate, it is dense, rich and well-structured. Lovely aromatic and tannic complexity. The finish is long.

The wine is pale yellow in colour. The nose is already expressive, with great complexity combining notes of ripe fruit , crystalline citrus notes and more delicate and elegant spicy and floral notes. The attack on the palate is dense and broad, with a very good texture and superb creaminess. Then the palate stretches out, supported by the good acidity, to a long and brilliant finish. The balance between softness and freshness is quite incredible, with the mouthfeel, volume and creaminess perfectly balanced by the beautiful freshness. This finely tuned acidity shapes the wine. On the palate, an explosion of fruit, then the aromas become more complex, more elegant, more sophisticated.

A deep dark red, almost black with purple edges, excellent aromatic profile with expressive red fruit flavors with blackberries and layers of elegant cedar notes. With a minerality on the palate, with decadent and well constructured tannins.

A dry summer with signs of excellent phenolic maturity for the harvest. Displaying a concentrated color with a plethora of red and black fruit aromas, with spices and liquorice. A well-defined texture that has subtle earth flavors on the palate.
